We listen to some music and we are moved to tears of joy or sorrow even when we don’t know the lyrics or the artist do not utter a sentence in any known or unknown language.
Also, we modulate our voices (tone and sound) when we are happy, angered, depressed, impatient, disgusted, fed up, traumatized or in love. For example the following expressions are not the same;
“Please come over here’
“Pleeeassse come over here’
“Please come over heeerrr”
The variation in our voice-tone in specific situations is both a voluntary and an involuntary act. The variation is inspired and motivated by our real need or stance as willed by our spirits; our true selves. The sound or voice simply becomes the vehicle or tool of expression.
Some scientists have been studying the visible effects of sound and vibration on different medium and substances and this specialized field of study is called cymatics.
Enter Nollywood, Bollywood and other film industries; film producers play on our responses to music and vibrations; they heighten our expectations, increase our pulse rates, deepen our heart beats, cause a flood of adrenalin to rush into our blood stream and increase our state of anxiety simply by playing some “strange and queer”, hairs-erecting background music periodically to tell their impacting stories.
We react to the projected sound and our entire body physiology changes in a twinkle of an eye. We suddenly become moody, happy or deeply anxious in the shortest possible time.
Tell me, which herbs or drugs can be that swift in impacting on our physical, emotional and psychological being as music? Little wonder music therapy is gaining much grounds in recent times in the field of complementary medicine as a reliable healing modality.
In this article, all statements on quote are that of Judith Acosta, a licensed clinical homeopath and psychologist.
But to start with, SOUND (Word) is very fundamental to our entire existence. Without it, no physical existence is possible. Don’t allow your mind to search and wander afar any further; think of just that closest sound to you (HEART BEAT ) and how pivotal it is to life on earth.
In the beginning was the Word…
“Every atom in the universe and cell in your body is vibrating constantly and this can be directed and enhanced through the power of sound frequencies in the form of words and music, among other things.”
“Vibrational resonance has been no secret to musicians or lovers of music. Mystics and prophets have been privy to its power, using music to celebrate and call forth the Divine.”
That phenomenal trumpet sounds by the marching warriors and the consequential collapse of the Wall of Jericho quickly comes to mind…
In Africa, Nigeria in particular, our highly knowledgeable forefathers; (here I am strictly referring to those with purer intents and goodwill), unleashed eventful acts evoked by and resulting from utterances of well-arranged incantations spoken or sang with fervor and rhythm.
Also, in contemporary times, various hymns, psalms, poems, religious music and other rhythmically arranged words have manifested potent healing and physiological effects on both living and nonliving things.
“Many people do not know that the roof of the mouth has no less than 84 different meridian points which are activated when we speak or chant. The form of the tongue when it hits the roof of the mouth determines which combination of meridians are stimulated and therefore certain words and sounds have more profound effects than others. These meridians are connected directly to the body’s nervous system and are partly responsible for the healing effect of mantras and sacred sounds.”
At this juncture, refresh your memory, recollect this statement and contemplate on it; “Just say a word and I shall be healed”.
Words and images are closely woven together and entangled. One conjures and calls forth the other. The sentence; ‘I am licking lime’ creates series of images correspondingly and what is more, instantly affects the body (as you start to salivate). That sentence/ imagery causes glandular secretion in you. Does this not clear doubts as to how some phrases can ease bleeding, reduce blood pressure, reduce inflammation etc? . Note that all biological processes have corresponding sound tones.
“Frequency healing, as it is called, has been studied intensely and broken down Hertz by Hertz. Every frequency “range” has a specific, non-random effect. For instance, 1.0 Hz impacts the pituitary, stimulating the production of growth hormones, while 111 Hz will increase beta endorphins and stimulate cell regeneration.”
At this point again I remember the story of David and King Saul; how David’s music calmed Saul while the music lasted.
So…
Let your words be melodious and soothing.
Mind your words; say what you mean and mean what you say. Words like swords mend and break, they truly heal and kill.
Food for thought.
